The Voice coaches couldn’t stop raving about Mike Steele’s “deep, rich” baritone on his hit The Voice 2026 blind audition, and no one was surprised when he soon had all three chairs turned! The coaches loved how the Missouri dad channeled some smooth ‘90s and 2000s R&B throwback vibes when he put his spin on Giveon’s “For Tonight”. Unsurprisingly, given their musical backgrounds, Adam Levine was the first to turn his chair and John Legend soon followed on the February 27, 2026 audition.
Kelly Clarkson waited to hear Mike sing the first chorus, and then hit her buzzer, giving the Missouri talent a clean sweep. The Music Man readers won’t be surprised to hear that the coaches soon laid on the praise for Mike, with John noting that Mike’s ‘90s and 2000s vibe was perfect given how big the style is coming back right now. All the coaches made their case for Mike to join their team, but Mike eventually picked John, no doubt knowing that the R&B star would be right at home working with his voice.
When The Voice uploaded Mike’s audition, it drew 245,000 views, making it one of the most popular auditions of the 2026 season so far. Fans gave plenty of praise for Mike and added comments like “Bro shifting from tenor to baritone to falsetto all in one audition. Total fire!” and “This is your winner. He’s the voice. Best male voice I’ve heard on any audition. Unique. With the right songs and coach it will be an easy win.”
Mike was a largely undiscovered singer before his audition on The Voice. However, he has shared some of his music on YouTube, including his original song “Get It Right”. This March 2025 release showed off plenty of Mike’s signature smooth, soulful melodies. The track also shows off Mike’s songwriting talent, which would be a major asset in his career after The Voice.
Mike Steele is a 28-year-old singer from Tutwiler, Missouri. He is currently studying music at college. Mike told The Voice coaches that he was previously working as a teaching assistant. However, he recently went back to college to study music, with the hope of “better[ing] the life” of his children. When John asked Mike about his influences, Mike said that as an R&B and soul singer, his favorites included Giveon, Tank, Tyrese, and Jodeci. The Music Man has to say that Mike is in very good hands with coach John, and no doubt we’ll get to hear some amazing performances from the Missouri talent moving further into the season.
