When boy band member Jonah Mayor came to The Voice 2026, he didn’t audition on his usual jams of Nsync or Backstreet Boys. Jonah instead made the shock choice to sing the classic Italian pop tune “Il Mondo.” The risk paid off, as within a few lines of being serenaded by that sonorous voice, Kelly Clarkson turned her chair and turned into Jonah’s biggest fan! Kelly was out there squealing with delight like One Direction just came to town, and soon declared, “You’re my favourite performer so far! That was so sexy!”
Adam Levine and John Legend kept their cards close to their chests for a while. Eventually, the 31-year-old Bronx talent turned Adam’s chair, getting 2 out of 3 turns. Kelly went up to get a hug from her new fav singer after the end of the song. It seems Jonah’s charms won the boys over too, as both Adam and John had to go in for a hug too after that – perhaps Adam was hoping to win over the talented New Yorker. It probably won’t surprise The Music Man readers to hear that Jonah then went to pick team Kelly.
Jonah’s February 25 audition proved to be popular with viewers, as it drew 220,000 views within two weeks. Kelly wasn’t the only one whom Jonah won over, and viewers added comments such as “As an Italian American from the Bronx, he made me tear up from his beautiful voice. I pray he wins” and “This may be the best singer/coach combo this year. So rooting for Jonah, and Kelly’s reaction to him absolutely made the audition. She’s the best!”
Jonah’s vocal style on his audition on “Il Mondo” brought to mind the great Italian crossover star Andrea Bocelli. It turns out that Jonah is indeed a fan of Bocelli. On his YouTube channel, Jonah Music, Jonah shared a passionate duet of Bocelli and Celine Dion’s classic duet “The Prayer”. This performance took place when Jonah was just 21, showing that he always had the right stuff, even as a young singer!
Jonah Mayor is a 31-year-old singer from the Bronx who is currently a member of The Boy Band Project. Jonah noted that the group sings boy band hits, such as favorites from Nsync, Backstreet Boys, One Direction. Kelly kept the praise coming for Jonah after the end of his The Voice performance. She told him that “There’s all these people that peak out every now and then in generations, like Bocelli or Josh Groban. There’s people that have this beautiful tone, and you have it man.”
