All kinds of magicians and illusionists have graced the America’s Got Talent stage over the years, as avid fans of the programme and many Music Man readers will likely know. It’s fair to say that very few of these acts have used sand as their main prop, though, which is exactly what South Korean-born illusionist Young-Min did at his AGT audition a few days ago, bending the minds of both the audience and the judges with his ability to create objects out of nothing more than sand and thin air.
Dressed in mysterious black robes, throughout his two-and-a-half minute audition Young-Min had the judges both gasping in shock and smiling in amazement at his tricks and illusions. He started off slowly, kneeling in a circle of sand and running his hands through it as if to draw in his audience. He then began his act properly, creating what looked like a wand out of the sand and then making it disappear. Even at this early stage, shots of the audience showed them with their mouths open in awe.
Further impressive illusions followed, including dissolving a metal circle, defying gravity by preventing a stream of sand from reaching the floor, and creating sandstorms out of nowhere. Such tricks clearly impressed the judges too, with judge Sofia Vergara giving an awe-filled shout of ‘wow!’ over the audience’s cheers once Young-Min had finished. “I loved it too, it was just so calming and it was beautiful to watch,” concurred Heidi Klum, whilst Howie Mandel praised the act’s originality.

This isn’t the first time this talented illusionist has shared his tricks onstage either; in 2020 he took part in the World Championship competition organized by Fédération Internationale des Sociétés, performing a similar sand-related act. With his ethereal movements and mesmerizing illusions, it will come as no surprise that Young-Min took home first prize at the competition, with many of the video’s viewers praising the elegance and gracefulness of his beautiful performance.
Based even just on the two videos described above, there’s little doubt that Young-Min is an immensely talented illusionist who has spent a good deal of time perfecting his act to make it the beautiful, ethereal experience that it is now.
As for how far he’ll get in AGT, who knows – Simon Cowell wasn’t a huge fan of his act, but the other three judges stood strong in their positive opinions, and in the end, Young-Min received a yes from all four of them, putting him through to the next round and making him a very strong contender in this series of the competition.
