Yeon’s drum cover of “Critical Acclaim” by the heavy metal band Avenged Sevenfold has gained significant attention online. The video fats become Yeon’s most popular video on YouTube, racking up 76M views in just 2 years! Watch the epic performance below.

Get ready to hear an ear-bursting, but completely fabulous drum cover of Survivor’s Eye Of The Tiger. The cover, which has been viewed 18 million times in the last five years, is by Korean drummer A-Yeon. She posted it during the opening of the Winter Olympics in PyeongChang, South Korea, and wished all the participants good luck.

As the event was held less than 200km from her hometown, it’s natural that she wanted to mark such a prestigious occasion. Eye of the Tiger was written for the movie Rocky 3, in which Rocky must go toe-to-toe with the vicious and brutal Clubbercise Lang.

Reaching the Olympics, and competing in them, is a grueling battle, so this song fits perfectly. A-Yeon’s version is quite unique, and all the more so because she’s a petite young woman which is pretty unusual in the world of drumming. Commenters on YouTube are raving about A-Yeon’s skills, “I really enjoyed the video. I feel this performance enhanced many aspects of this song. Good posture and technique combined to make this very enjoyable. A classic given a bit of new life.”

It explains why the video has received 181,000 likes and why A-Yeon’s YouTube channel currently has 2.3 million subscribers.

Believe it or not, the drums were not A-Yeon’s first instrument and her YouTub channel was not her first foray into the musical world. She was born on June 4th, 1990, in Daegu, South Korea. When she was a child, she learned to play the piano and says she still plays sometimes even now.

Although playing the drums and playing the piano are nothing alike, A-Yeon’s ability to read music and understand tempo helped greatly. In an impressive feat, she taught herself by watching the best drummers on YouTube and copying their movements. Although she is now an extremely accomplished drummer, A-Yeo had her first brush with fame in the K-Pop band Bebop. She was a vocalist and drummer and was joined by Juwoo, main vocals and guitar, and Ji In, vocals and bass. The band released a mini-album named Between Calm and Passion which was released on Valentine’s Day, 2014. They released two singles and another mini-album before disbanding in 2016.

Once Bebop went their separate ways, A-Yeon started playing the drums as a street performer and started her YouTube channel. Since then, her fanbase has grown steadily. Her cover of American heavy metal band Avenged Sevenfold’s song Critical Acclaim has been viewed 76,000,000 times! She’s also been working on creating her own music, she released her first solo album in 2018, named Midsummer Night. If you would like to see more from A-Yeon, you can subscribe to her YouTube channel or follow her on Facebook.
