Country music fans were treated to a coming together of two iconic stars at the ACM Girl’s Night Out Awards in 2011. John Fogerty of the popular country-influenced 70s rock band, Creedence Clearwater Revival, was one of the few men invited to the ACM Girl’s Night Out Awards – an awards ceremony celebrating women in country music. Of course, no one was surprised that country music icon Wynonna Judd was attending the ceremony too.
When John invited Wynonna up to sing “one special song” with him, the crowd knew they were in for a treat. The duo joined together to sing one of John’s most popular songs from his days in Creedence Clearwater Revival – Proud Mary. The crowd looked delighted as they danced, clapped, and sang along during the performance. John and Wynonna looked just as delighted themselves to be performing together, even posing for a photograph taken by Wynonna’s mother, Naomi Judd, during the number.
Having played rock music for over 50 years, John Fogerty could be forgiven if he wanted to slow down now that he is well into his 70s. However, the energetic performance of his classic hit shows that he is able to take the stage with just as much charisma as he did when the song was released back in 1969. Wynonna Judd also appears to have no intention of slowing down any time soon. The country star was invited to the event to celebrate her status as one-half of ACM’s most award-winning female duo.
Alongside her mother, Naomi Judd, who was also in attendance, Wynonna shot to stardom in the 80s for singing in the country music duo, The Judds. The mother-daughter duo went on to become one of the most popular country music acts in history, winning five Grammy Awards and nine Country Music Association Awards. After The Judds disbanded, Wynonna went on to have a highly successful musical career herself, achieving multiple number-one hits and three multi-platinum-certified records.
Wynonna has received various accolades over the years, including a star on the Nashville Walk of Fame, the Country Champion Award at the People’s Choice Country Awards, and a spot in the Rock’n’Roll Hall of Fame as a member of The Judds. Her star voice, combined with the talents of John Fogerty and his legendary status as a member of one of the most popular rock bands of all time, ensured their performance certainly gave ACM Girl’s Night Out attendees an evening they won’t be able to forget any time soon.
