What’s better than a pint at the Stag’s Head in Dublin? Why, a pint with the talented lads in The Ramparts choir as they sing the classic “The Rocky Road to Dublin” at the Stag’s Head! The Irish choir gave a gorgeous a cappella performance of the traditional tune down at the historic pub on St Patrick’s Day. The choir scored a 7.3 million view viral video for their trouble, and when you tune in, you’ll quickly understand why the boys are so popular.
There’s just something about a men’s choir singing traditional Irish songs down at the pub that’s guaranteed to put a smile on your face. It sure helps that The Ramparts can sing like nobody’s business. The Music Man figures it must have been quite the tall order to find so many talented singers to join one group, but we’re sure glad they did. The group also delivers a brilliant vocal arrangement, with multiple part harmonies aplenty and brilliant dynamics, going from whispers to rowdy shouts so seamlessly.
The Ramparts uploaded their take on “The Rocky Road to Dublin” to YouTube on March 17, 2020, and it quickly became their most popular video. The Ramparts were clearly on to a good thing when they went down to the Stag’s Head that day, as they scored not one but two viral videos from the pub singing sesh. The second popular video shot that day features the choir singing “The Bonnie Banks o’ Loch Lomond.” The traditional Scottish folk song is a slow-burn number that really allows the group to stretch their skills as a choir to build it up to the riotous ending.
The Ramparts are a Dublin-based a cappella group that formed in February 2016. The full membership features over 30 vocalists. The Ramparts began uploading their performances to YouTube in 2016.
