It was another ordinary day for busking duo Violin Phonix – or so they thought! Performing for tourists passing by in London’s Covent Garden, they had no idea that the performance they gave that afternoon would end up going mega viral online and becoming one of their most popular videos on YouTube to date.
Whilst playing a violin duet of Whitney Houston’s ‘I Wanna Dance With Somebody’, the two musicians were approached by a man who turned out to be famous singer Calum Scott. They were surprised when he asked if he could perform with them, but they agreed, and soon a big crowd started to gather as tourists found themselves drawn in by Calum’s amazing voice.
But what happened next was even more extraordinary. Out of the blue, a young girl called Viola Marie came up to the trio as they were performing to ask if she could sing too. To everybody’s surprise, her voice was nothing less than angelic, and when she started singing alongside Calum, it was a truly magical moment for everyone involved.
As Music Man readers will probably have guessed by now given the girl’s confidence and vocal abilities, this was not the first time Viola had approached some buskers in public to ask if she could join in with their performance. In fact, earlier in 2025 she gave a beautiful rendition of Leonard Cohen’s ‘Hallelujah’ with street clarinettist Raphaël Froissart, leading to another mega viral online video!
Whilst the other musicians featured in both the videos above are clearly extraordinarily talented, both times it was young Viola who stole the show, her angelic voice and sweet personality winning over thousands of viewers all around the world. ‘Get this girl in a recording studio ASAP!’ reads a comment underneath one of the videos—and we couldn’t agree more!
Violin Phonix certainly experienced a moment of unexpected magic with their viral Covent Garden performance, captivating audiences both on-site and online. It’s not every day you get to share a stage with Calum Scott and discover a gem like Viola Marie! Their collaboration is a testament to the power of music to unite strangers.
