Lewis Capaldi unleashes emotional new hit “Something In The Heavens” live at Abbey Road Studios

Lewis Capaldi is back on the scene with his new hit single, “Something In The Heavens.” But, just one day after his single dropped, the Glaswegian singer-songwriter posted a live rendition to YouTube that would melt fans’ hearts and amass over a million views in just a matter of weeks!

Filmed at the legendary studios of Abbey Road, London, this fresh and heart-stirring take on Lewis’s new ballad has gone internet-viral. Music Man readers can watch the magic unfold in the video below.

This live clip is about as flawless as it gets. Lewis quiets his band and takes the mic as the piano riff leads his voice, his first lyrics atmospherically magnificent: “Eyes of emerald and white, more precious than gold / Hands as soft as the sand but harder to hold.” Pitch-perfect vocals flow naturally over the blossoming orchestral ambience, melodies swaying between ballad-like tenderness and absolute ethereality, especially once Lewis hits his first chorus.

“Something In The Heavens” was preceded by Lewis’ comeback single, “Survive,” which captures an emotional story of its own. This lead hit follows Lewis’ journey of struggle and strength through his brief hiatus, after having been forced to step back from the limelight due to worsening health issues, most notably a Tourette’s attack live on stage at Glastonbury 2023. Fans can check out “Survive” in the clip below.

But, what about this new track? “Something In The Heavens” is a soul-churning ballad balancing the deep despair of loss and grief with a calm and hopeful belief in unconditional love. His lyrics translate not only to break-ups but to loss in all its forms, its soft ballad energy as peaceful as a funeral service while letting tender lyrical themes of light break like sunbeams through the storm. The act of finding comfort through chaos takes center stage as Lewis sings, “Till the day I die, I will dream of you / In a million lives, you’re the one I’d choose / I’ll love you till my last breath / You’re gone, but something in the heavens tells me that we’ll be together again.”

Capaldi – who hyped up his new single by playing a surprise rooftop concert, Beatles-style, ingeniously atop Bristol’s Aldi store (temporarily renaming his venue “Cap-Aldi”) – lets his raw talent shine vibrantly in this Abbey Road rendition, stunning fans with the emotional depth of his performance as much as with the new song itself.

Now, we all know the history that’s gone down in this studio, from The Beatles’ penultimate record to the countless live-in-studio clips that have poured out onto YouTube – stars from Sam Smith to Noel Gallagher, Ed Sheeran to Iron Maiden making the stuff of music legend within these walls. Capaldi proves himself to be the ultimate addition to this best-of-British alumni, taking his place amongst the greats where he absolutely belongs.
