Eminem, Snoop Dogg, Pitbull, Wonder Mike, Jay-Z. All of the above are legendary rappers who have shaped the course of the genre as we know it today. But what would it sound like if they did one big collaboration? Impressionist and comedian Vincent Marcus brought us one step closer to finding out when he appeared on Season 15 of America’s Got Talent, showcasing his incredibly accurate impressions of these five rappers by singing nursery rhymes in their instantly recognizable voices.
At first, the audience seemed a little bemused by Vincent, with his explanation of his act (“we’re gonna do a little nursery rhyme rap with a couple of rappers you might know”) being met with either blank or confused faces. Very soon, however, the audience’s confusion turned into laughter and amazement as they realized they were hearing what sounded like Eminem rapping ‘Itsy Bitsy Spider’. “Maybe this is why Eminem asked, ‘will the real Slim Shady please stand up'” quipped one entertained viewer.
Further hilarious impressions followed, including Snoop Dogg singing ‘Pat-A-Cake Pat-A-Cake’ and Pitbull singing ‘Mary Had A Little Lamb’, both of which were so on point that if you closed your eyes, the rappers might actually have been in the room performing those songs. To close his audition, meanwhile, Vincent returned to fan favourite Eminem, adopting the legendary rapper’s voice to ask Simon Cowell, “what you think of the rhyming, dog? I’m out”, subsequently receiving a standing ovation.
