BGT Golden Buzzer For Ssaulabi’s Jaw-Dropping Taekwondo Spectacle

Ssaulabi, a martial arts group from South Korea, told the audience at their first audition that they were there to “do something never seen before on BGT”. The group, made up of members aged between 19 and 23, is usually found performing at Taekwondo competitions in their home country. Like all good athletic teams, the group joined together for a pre-performance huddle, taking part in a rousing chant as the audience waited in suspense. Then, they broke apart to perform.

Judges and audience members alike were immediately amazed as the group began with a demonstration of disciplined and striking Taekwondo patterns. The performance only became more extreme from there, the members captivating the audience with their fearlessness. The team performed a series of flips, kicks, and combat demonstrations. Throughout the performance, they kicked and punched their way through wooden slats, causing the stage to be covered with wooden shards by the end of the performance.

All of the onlookers were astonished by the performance. Audience members looked on with dropped jaws as judges Bruno, Amanda, and Alesha got to their feet, exclaiming, “Oh my god!”. BGT presenters Ant and Dec were going wild with enthusiasm backstage, and when the performance finished, they sprinted over to the judges’ desk to slam their hands on the Golden Buzzer, causing confetti to rain down and sending Ssaulabi straight through to the live shows.

Fans of the ‘Got Talent’ franchise might be reminded by Ssaulabi of another iconic martial arts group – the World Taekwondo Demonstration Team. This martial arts group performed on America’s Got Talent in 2021 and brought a similar performance style to the show as Ssaulabi. They took American audiences by storm and received a Golden Buzzer for their first audition, paralleled to Ssaulabi’s first audition on Britain’s Got Talent, making it all the way to the AGT finals.

The World Taekwondo Demonstration Team’s success in their appearance on America’s Got Talent bodes well for Ssaulabi’s future on Britain’s Got Talent. The initial reaction to Ssaulabi’s work mirrors the enthusiasm shown towards the other Taekwondo performance team during their tenure. With online viewers leaving comments such as “Didn’t realize my tears were dropping on my face, because you can feel how much hard work they put into this performance. They deserved it so much.” on the YouTube video that has received over 1.7M views so far, it is clear that the appetite for martial arts performance is as healthy as ever.
