In 2020, Josh Groban released his ninth studio album, Harmony. This album was a unique release for the singer-songwriter, as it focused less on original songs by the artist and more on covers by iconic musicians who had come before him. For one viewer, their cover of ‘I’ll Stand By You’ was simply not enough, as they shared, “I could do with a whole album of love duets with Josh and Helene.” While Helene did not appear for another duet on the album, Josh did team up with other singers to cover more classic hits.
One of these hits was the song ‘Both Sides Now’ by Joni Mitchell, which Josh Groban teamed up with Sara Bareilles to sing. Once again, bringing their own unique style to their interpretation, the pair took the fragile folk song and turned it into a powerhouse duet, complete with swooning string orchestration. After the release of Harmony, Josh took his vocal talent back to Broadway, musical theatre being one of the pursuits in which he is well known to excel. It was to no musical theatre fan’s surprise that he was nominated for a Tony Award in 2023 for his performance in Sweeney Todd.
