This video captures a young boy of only 11 years old playing the Darbuka with a beaming smile and some serious talent. The footage was captured on the streets of Istanbul and features the hand drumming prodigy Sercan Gider showcasing his skills.
The young musician is now a 17-year-old (in 2021) who has continued to grow his incredible talents with the percussion instrument. He is best known for his performances on İstiklal Avenue, historically known as the Grand Avenue of Pera. It is one of the most famous avenues in Istanbul, Turkey, and is visited by nearly 3 million people in a single day (weekends).
Sercan has started to appear on many different TV shows where he showcases his wonderful skills. This has helped to grow his social media presence which he now has over 6k followers on Instagram alone. (follow him via the link at the bottom of this post) In the video below he performs a Darbuka solo in front of a live TV audience.
The young man can often be seen performing on the streets of the city where he lives – Istanbul. Many passers-by have caught him busking on video and uploaded the footage to YouTube.
