Naturally, it’s their dream that the video might get back to the original singer. If they like it enough they might share it on their social media or even make a nice comment. Ronan Scolard and Glenn Murphy could never have guessed what would happen when they uploaded a medley honouring Adele to their YouTube channel.
Their first surprise was that the video went viral, getting hundreds of thousands of views in a week. The boys were thrilled that their video got such a great response. It never crossed their minds that Adele may have seen it herself. The success of the video added to the excitement they already felt, Adele was performing in Dublin soon, and they had tickets.
The day arrived, and Ronan and Glenn arrived at the arena, expecting nothing but to see their idol put on a great show. They weren’t disappointed. As usual, Adele was spellbinding and all they could do was watch in delight. They were completely unprepared when Adele spoke to them and asked them to join her onstage. Their looks of shock changed to joy as they each got a hug from the star.
Their treat did not end there. Promising fans that the duo had no idea she was going to do this, she asked them to sing the songs from their video live. She had even arranged for a grand piano to be brought onstage for them to play. Well, what could they say? Who would turn down an invitation from Adele?
Ronan and Glenn sang their hearts out with the occasional tear in their eyes. Adele showed true humility and generosity of spirit throughout. Rather than sing with them or draw the crowd’s attention, Adele moved to the back of the stage and watched along with the audience. Her smile said it all, she loved watching them sing her songs so beautifully. It was a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity and an incredible performance.
