Argentine malambo act Revolution Queens put their stamp on America’s Got Talent in a jaw-dropping audition that was a smash hit. The all-female group, aged 17 to 29, told Simon Cowell that malambo dance was all about “strength and power,” and they certainly proved that onstage. Malambo is traditionally performed as a competition between two men, but Revolution Queens brought a new angle to the folk dance that made for a memorable audition.
Revolution Queens kicked off the audition with a rowdy drumline performance set to the hard rock grooves of Marilyn Manson’s “The Beautiful People.” Their act was fierce and assertive, with a real girl power vibe that had the audience clapping and screaming throughout. A soloist then performed a raunchy routine with two whips, and then the girls showed off their dancing skills. The ladies then broke out their bolas, which is a chain with a ball on the end, for a big percussive dance finale.
The crowd was beyond hyped for Revolution Queens, and the audition created an electric vibe in the room. The performance was quite a hit online as well, as 1.9 million viewers tuned in on YouTube to see the girls do their thing. After the dance, the audition took an emotional turn, as when prompted by Julianne Hough, a tearful member said, “This is literally a dream come true. We’ve sacrificed so much to be here. Honestly, there’s not a lot of opportunities back in Argentina for artists like us.”
