16-Year-Old Reece Mastin Rocks Judges Socks Off Like A Young Robert Plant On The X Factor

16-year-old Reece Mastin told The X Factor judges he wants to be a “rock and roll legend”, and the teen showed that he absolutely has the goods in a powerhouse audition. The English singer appeared on the Australian version of the show after moving down under at the age of 10, and he rocked the judges’ socks off like a young Robert Plant, leaving them gushing afterwards.

Reece sang Rooster’s “Come Get Some”, and straight up, he rocked it better than the original. The teen has an incredibly lithe voice that can at once croon and then scream like a rock god without skipping a beat. He gave the audience some of the cream in the opening verse, then changed gears to a beastly chorus that had the judges giving knowing looks to each other.

Reece’s audition attracted 6.2 million views on YouTube, making it the second most popular video of all time on the Aussie edition of The X Factor. The judges were clearly flabbergasted with the skills of the young lad, with Ronan Keating beginning by thanking his parents for moving to Australia. The star then told the teen that he “absolutely 100% has the X factor.”

Natalie Bassingthwaighte told Reece, “You have everything that we are looking for on this show.” Guy Sebastian said that the audition was “ridiculous” and added, “I felt like I was watching a 20-something
that had been gigging for 10 years. Amazing.” Mel B told Reece that he was already a rock star in her eyes. Later in the series, Reece performed his original hit song “Good Night” on the show.

Reece eventually won the entire third season of The X Factor Australia, and there’s no doubt the young talent deserved it. Some winners of talent shows can quickly disappear into obscurity after the final episode airs, but Reece was successful in his dream of becoming a bona fide rock star.
Soon after the final episode was broadcast, Reece’s winner’s single “Good Night” was released via digital download thanks to his freshly signed recording contract with Sony Music Australia. It was an immediate success, going to number one in Australia and New Zealand. It also became Sony Music Australia’s fastest-selling digital single.

The hits just kept on coming for Reece, as his debut album was released a month after the single and it went two times Platinum in his adopted homeland. He has since recorded a total of three albums, all of which charted in the Australian top 20.
