Rebecca Ferguson Predicted That “A Change Is Gonna Come” With Dazzling X Factor Audition

In the 2010 edition of the popular talent show The X Factor, a 23-year-old mum from Liverpool named Rebecca showed the nation that taking a break from your dreams can sometimes be a good thing. This devoted mother was full of nerves before her performance and described that she had lost her childhood confidence over the years. Nevertheless, she wanted to prove those who had helped chip away at her confidence wrong by performing in front of a full house, and some rather tough judges.

Before deciding to try her luck on The X Factor, Rebecca had always dreamed of becoming a singer and was known to perform in front of her friends from a very young age. However, after falling pregnant with her first child, she decided to put her musical career on hold to focus on her family. With this performance, she shows that she can be a busy mother and has a true knack for all things vocal! Watch her lovely performance, which features some heartfelt comments from the judges, here:

Before the performance, an emotional Rebecca explains that she has never wanted to be anything other than a singer, which shows how much was on the line for this young mother. As it turns out, while she may have experienced a little stage fright at first, she is indeed a true performer who should embrace her talent! This was noted by the judges too, with Simon Cowell smiling at her post-performance and former Pussycat Doll Nicole Scherzinger noting that her voice moved her.

Her choice of song, “A Change Is Gonna Come” by the American singer-songwriter Sam Cooke, was a very fitting track for Rebecca’s audition. It certainly seemed prophetic of the huge changes that were about to come her way. Not only did Ferguson get through the audition, but she went on to reach second place in the whole competition, narrowly missing out on the crown to Matt Cardle. Since then, she has been a successful music artist and has achieved her childhood dream.

Since her time on The X Factor, Rebecca Ferguson has released five studio albums, with the most recent being 2023’s Heaven Part 2. Overall, they have been received very well by fans all over the world, and she achieved even more success on her promotional tour for Heaven Part 2 in April of 2024.
