P!nk & Sam Smith’s Amazing Fan Made Cover Of “Stay With Me”

Never underestimate the power of fan edits. One faux-music video is taking YouTube by storm, mixing two live performances from superstars Sam Smith and P!nk into one seamless song which leaves you wondering — why didn’t the stars actually collaborate for the original?!

Sam Smith’s second solo single, “Stay With Me,” shot straight to number one in the UK, his home country, and in seven more countries spanning from Scotland to South Africa. His down-to-earth, piano-laced pop ballad currently boasts an astounding 1.2 billion YouTube views; it is his third most-viewed music video to date.

This London-born star was the summer sensation of 2013 and 2014; a career which kicked off with a #1 collab with Naughty Boy, entitled “La La La”. This sparked a hype which still hasn’t stopped reverberating. Since then, Sam Smith has become a notorious collaborator with multiple shared #1s to his name, including the 2018 hit “Promises” with producer Calvin Harris and “Unholy” with Kim Petras. He even shared the mic with R&B queen Mary J. Blige on a live cover of “Stay With Me” in 2014.

But one of the best live collabs Sam Smith has ever performed isn’t even real! The faux-collab in question was posted on YouTube by user “Blighght” just under two years ago, already with 5.3M views.

Clips from Sam Smith’s 2014 performance on the Honda Stage at the iHeartRadio Theatre are patchworked together with snippets of P!nk’s 2017 live cover in the BBC Radio 1 Live Lounge. With their vocals overlaid and ad-libs from each performance plucked and planted naturally within the mix, the final effect is insane: two stars sharing verses without sharing a stage, harmonising alone while augmenting each other’s voices.

P!nk’s Live Lounge cover came off the back of her 2017 single, “What About Us” from the #1 album, “Beautiful Trauma.” Now aged 44, Alecia Moore’s career (yes, that is P!nk’s real name) has seen a flood of hits since her 2001 supergroup collab with Christina Aguilera, Lil’ Kim and Mýa, “Lady Marmalade,” including the singles “Who Knew”, “So What” and “Just Give Me A Reason,” a 2013 #1 with Nate Ruess.

This all begs the question: why didn’t P!nk collab with fellow hitmaker Sam Smith for real? Blighght’s fan edit proves these stars’ voices are a match made in heaven. Our verdict is: we’ve been robbed. But at least we have this awesome faux-collab to help us imagine the parallel universe where this duet actually took place.
