Prepare to have your mind blown by the insane talents of guitarist Nita Strauss – it’s no wonder that she’s on tour with Alice Cooper! Filmed in 2017, this clip shows her playing a jaw-dropping solo to get the audience warmed up before Alice himself takes the stage, although some might argue that she’s in danger of taking the spotlight from the main star of the show with her unbelievably fast playing and distinctive looks.
Framed by a thick cloud of dramatic stage smoke that floats ominously behind her, Nita strides onto the stage with as much swagger and confidence as any iconic metal guitarist you can bring to mind, her thick black eye makeup and the patches of blood-like paint on her skin completing the look. After making her entrance, she encourages the crowd to clap along to the beat before unleashing a solo that is guaranteed to make your jaw fall to the floor.
In a bid to get the crowd fully prepared for the ensuing performance, she lets the tension build with some introductory guitar strums before showing them her true musical talents. Her fingers move blindingly fast across the fretboard, and soon she is adopting the classic metal guitarist pose by flicking her hair back and falling to her knees right at the front of the stage as she continues to play what is surely one of the most accomplished improvised solos the audience will have ever heard.
But Nita isn’t just a guitarist, Music Man readers. She’s also a first-class songwriter, something proved beyond doubt by even a cursory listen to any of her solo material. Take the song below, for instance, ‘Victorious’. Featuring fellow metal artist Dorothy, musically the song is dark and foreboding but features some seriously inspiring lyrics, with the video depicting a young Nita learning to play guitar and dreaming of becoming a musician.
Whether you’re a fan of metal or not, after watching the two videos above you surely cannot deny Nita’s musical talents. But not only is she an incredible guitarist, she is also a role model for young women to look up to, showing that even in the male-dominated world of metal music they can still achieve their dreams if they practice and work hard.
