For many contestants on talent shows such as Britain’s Got Talent, it’s an opportunity to make their own way in the world and make their family proud in the process. Some acts, however, are a little different. Martin and Faye, who auditioned together on Britain’s Got Talent 2017, are a father-daughter couple who decided to share the same dream and come together to create one powerful double act that would blow the nation away.
Performing on a nationwide talent show that gets worldwide attention is a daunting task and one to never take lightly. However, Martin and Faye take it in their stride and lean on each other for strength as they go through an incredible operatic performance of “The Prayer” by Celine Dion and Andrea Bocelli. As the duo begins their performance, 10-year-old Faye’s nerves are easily visible but they ease as the audience reacts to her incredible voice. Not only that, but her 47-year-old father quickly soothes her nerves as he joins in, and the pair look at each other for courage and reassurance during a performance that would have taken weeks of arduous practice to get to this level of quality.
Celine Dion and Andrea Bocelli shocked the world with their touching and powerful ballad “The Prayer”, which was an astoundingly successful classical operatic duet that was received exceptionally well by both critics and the public. So much so that it won a Golden Globe Award for Best Original Song, and was nominated for both an Academy Award in 1999 for Best Original Song and a Grammy Award in 2000.
A popular classic such as “The Prayer” adds a level of pressure to Martin and Faye to deliver an exceptional performance, and to say they did would be putting it lightly. Faye has the voice of an angel and presents herself as a singer with more years of experience than she has been alive. It is also clear that Martin has experienced success previously with his voice, as he has a control that most would be happily jealous of.
Their success at the Britain’s Got Talent 2017 audition continued throughout the course of the competition. However, their time on national TV was cut short as they were eliminated in the show’s semi-final portion. A shaky beginning to the performance cost them their place in the finale, but to come so far and to share a father-daughter bond is more of a prize than any competition could offer.
Despite not progressing further into Britain’s Got Talent, that has not stopped the operatic duo from performing and wowing crowds whenever possible. They are available to book to perform at events, and according to Martin’s social media, he is also available for solo performances which seem incredibly popular.
