Behind The Scenes Recording Ed Sheeran’s Perfect
Ed has revealed his inspirations behind ‘Perfect’, which has stemmed from both his love for his then-girlfriend, now wife, Cherry Seaborn, as well as a trip to James Blunt’s house in Ibiza.
As the pair listened to Future’s ‘March Madness’ at 6 am, Ed gathered inspiration, booked a studio, and finished the song on the same day. Ed believed, that despite finishing the song so quickly, he had created a special song.
About Ed Sheeran & Perfect
Ed Sheeran is perhaps one of the most well-known recording artists in the world, with millions of fans celebrating his music worldwide. As an English singer/songwriter, Ed Sheeran’s most popular audience is the UK, where his top 20 songs have collectively been streamed a total of 3.9 billion times.
He has won several Grammy awards for hits including ‘Photograph’, ‘Shape Of You’, ‘Thinking Out Loud’ and probably his most well-known song, ‘Perfect’.
In 2017, Ed Sheeran released his third album ‘Divide’. One of the most popular songs on this album was ‘Perfect’, a modern pop ballad that stunned his audience.
The making of Perfect involved many people, including Ben Cook, the President of Atlantic Records, Will Hicks, the Producer, Matthew Sheeran, the composer and Ed’s brother, and other unknown crew members.
All of these significant people, as well as Ed Sheeran, gather around a screen to listen to Matthew’s composition of ‘Perfect’. They then discuss the practicalities and the impact of a real orchestra.
In the well renowned Abbey Road Studios, an entire orchestra and conductor, begin to play the backing sound for ‘Perfect’. The orchestra consists of violins, clarinets, cellos, and more. They play once through before Ed joins them and sings alongside the orchestra. Ed has invited Cherry Seaborn and his mother to see and listen to the making of ‘Perfect’.
After the recording, Ed and Matthew wrap their arms around one another and stand for a photo. Ed looks for his brother’s approval as he says ‘Did you love it?’, to which his brother responds ‘Yeah, yeah, thanks for choosing the orchestra. I think it was a good idea.’ As the pair collaborate together in the making of ‘Perfect’, Ed and Matthew fulfil their grandmother’s last wish.
