Luke Combs and Ed Sheeran did something enchanting on “Dive” and 25 million fans can’t stop replaying the heartwarming moment Ed walks on stage to see Luke and the crowd’s reaction

It’s not often the biggest pop star on the planet walks on stage with the biggest country star. But when Luke Combs brought on Ed Sheeran to sing the latter’s ballad “Dive,” that’s just what happened, and 25 million fans are still catching their breath. There were vocal fireworks all over the stage, with Luke kicking off proceedings with his twangy take on the iconic hit. The magic really started when Ed walked out, with the country star greeting him with a huge smile and a warm hug.

The crowd went ballistic at that point, with the energy in the room being palpable. The English pop star was just as stoked to be on stage as his host, and you could tell that both of them could appreciate that they were right in the middle of one of those special moments. The Music Man has to say that this clash of titans from the country and pop worlds was such a feel-good watch!

The two stars sang “Dive” together in London. Luke subsequently uploaded it to his YouTube channel, where it became his second-most popular live performance. Viewers were keen on the collab, and added comments such as “The smile Luke has on his face when he hears the positive reaction to Ed Sheeran coming on stage. The dude just loves music and making his fans happy” and “I love the way Ed wrote and recorded ‘Dive’ but there’s something about the way Luke and his band perform the song that makes it enchanting.”

Luke Combs always has a way of creating something memorable when he drops covers into his set. His most popular live performance on YouTube is his take on Tracy Chapman’s “Fast Car.” Tracy is such a unique singer-songwriter that it’s quite a tall order to cover one of her songs. However, Luke has a knack for getting to the emotional core of a song with his interpretations, and this killer live performance is no exception.

The Music Man readers might not be surprised to hear that Luke is quite the big Ed Sheeran fan. He has covered Ed’s hit “Dive” at no fewer than 35 of his concerts. The Ed and Luke connection goes beyond the live arena, however. The two stars have also collaborated in the studio, recording a duet together, “Life Goes On.” The English pop star issued the song as the third single from his fifth studio album, −. Luke and Ed celebrated the release of their “Life Goes On” duet by performing the song at the 2023 Academy of Country Music Awards.
