It seemed like just another day at New York’s LaGuardia Airport, but little did the lucky travelers on that day realize they were about to witness a one-off musical moment that would later go mega-viral online. The moment happened when cast members from Broadway musicals The Lion King and Aladdin found themselves delayed at the airport. Their way to pass the time? An epic sing-off filled with iconic numbers from both musicals!
It’s the Lion King cast members that start things off, their heavenly harmonies and energetic vocals leaving those passing by with their jaws on the floor. Next, the Aladdin cast take center stage, led by the cast member who plays the infamous genie in the production. Whichever musical you prefer, few will doubt that both groups of cast members absolutely sang their hearts out for those in the airport that day.
As a result – and as is arguably understandable, Music Man readers – the comment section on YouTube is filled with envious viewers wishing they had been able to witness this epic musical battle in person! “If I saw this going on I’d probably miss my own flight,” reads one of the video’s most popular comments, whilst another humorously suggests that “every war should be settled with a sing-off like this.”
But whilst the groups from both musicals gave it their all, judging by the comments on YouTube, overall it seems like the Lion King cast won the battle that day. And when you hear full stage performances from those cast members, you quickly realize why. Take the clip below, for instance, which shows the Lion King cast giving a rendition of ‘The Circle of Life’ at the Musical Awards Gala in 2018 that is, quite frankly, unforgettable.
However, it has to be said that few videos fill us with as much joy and awe as the video which shows the two groups of cast members having a fierce sing-off at LaGuardia Airport. It’s one of those videos that restores your faith in humanity, and perhaps even makes you wish that you were there that day waiting for a delayed flight so you could witness their stunning performances in person!
This impromptu La Guardia sing-off was pure Broadway magic — show-stopping, joyful and utterly viral. If you want to watch the clip and learn more about the casts and their shows, check the useful links below to discover more.
