Dance duo Libby and Charlie, who are both aged 11, gave the sweetest dance audition on Britain’s Got Talent. Libby and Charlie, who hail from Liverpool and Manchester respectively, gave an impressive contemporary performance informed by ballet. To the tune of Christina Perri’s “A Thousand Years,” they showed off some beautiful synchronized moves and leaps. The performance led up to a big finale, where Libby made a dramatic leap into Charlie’s arms.
The pair gave a cheeky opening interview, where Libby declared herself to be the boss of the duo, while Charlie took issue with this claim. Nonetheless, they described themselves – at the same time – as “like, best friends”, which also showed in their chemistry on the dance floor. It’s rare for a young dance duo to build up such great skill and connection as performers, and it really made their audition a special one.
Libby and Charlie’s audition gained 9.5 million views on the Britain’s Got Talent channel. This made it one of the most popular dance duo performances in the history of the show. Viewers at home were mighty impressed with the dynamic duo and added comments such as “They are both little superstars at what they do! I absolutely loved this audition” and “Loved it – definitely a 10 out of 10!”
The judges were big fans of Libby and Charlie, with Alesha Dixon declaring “you two have just got it!” Simon Cowell also sent some major praise their way, saying “Your choice of song, your absolute friendship, your choice of fun – it was one of my favourite dance acts on this show.” Later in the season, the pair changed up their style to a Latin-flavored dance for the final.
Libby and Charlie got a warm reception from the judges after their audition and advanced to the next round. They initially failed to reach the semifinals, but after stunt act Brotherhood withdrew due to safety concerns, Libby and Charlie got another chance to appear on the show.
Libby and Charlie danced a jazz routine in the semifinals, where they placed third overall. They were then brought back yet again for the final as a judge’s wildcard.
In the final, they performed the Latin routine that you can see in the second video of this article. Their finals performance included solo dances for both Libby and Charlie. The duo again impressed the judges, with David Walliams saying, “You’ve just got better and better and better.” Libby and Charlie eventually placed 10th overall in the season 13 competition.
