Grease Has Some Of The Greatest Songs In Cinema, But Watch 15-Year-Old Liamani Take It To The Next Level On Her Powerful R&B Take On “Hopelessly Devoted To You”

15-year-old Liamani Segura really blew everyone away with her gorgeous piano cover of this Olivia Newton-John classic! The American singer brought her own flavor to “Hopelessly Devoted to You” from the Grease soundtrack by stripping back the ‘70s classic to a solo piano ballad. Segura’s performance, uploaded on July 22, 2024, really pulls on the heartstrings, and what a voice!

The original song has a full band country pop arrangement, but Segura’s R&B piano take on the song is just what the doctor ordered! It takes a lot of talent to really make a classic tune your own, but the young YouTuber really delivered the goods with her unique interpretation of the song. Here on The Music Man, we’re all about sharing the best up-and-coming talent, and Segura is one you don’t want to miss out on!

Segura uploaded the cover on her YouTube channel Liamani Sings, which has 323,000 subscribers. The teen talent gave some background on the song choice in the video description, saying, “I watched the movie Grease with my family last night for the millionth time. And every time we watch, we all sing all the songs, out loud, together. Thank you so much Olivia Newton-John for this timeless classic!”

Segura has been performing since she was six years old. Her big break came when she was nine years old when she was cast as Dorothy in the Lees–McRae College Summer Theatre’s production of The Wiz. She has also made a name for herself by performing the national anthem, and her most popular video features her doing just that at the Brewers versus Rockies game at American Family Field in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.

Segura was born on October 24, 2008, in Racine, Wisconsin, and she is of Mexican and Filipino descent. She previously entered America’s Got Talent and progressed to performing before the judges, but she did not make it to a televised round.

The young singer’s most notable role to date is playing Emmy in High School Musical: The Musical: The Series. She was initially cast in the role in 2022, and the following year she was moved up to the main cast for the fourth season of the show.

Segura has continued to build her profile on her YouTube channel, where she has uploaded four videos with more than one million views. She regularly uploads public performances and her pop and R&B covers on the channel.
