In case you missed it, here’s one of the best duets of an Adele song you’re likely to hear. Filmed at Sunfest, Florida, in 2015, it features Australian music star Keith Urban and American Idol contestant Lauren Spencer-Smith. They sing Adele’s (Dylan’s) Make You Feel My Love, and the crowd goes wild. What’s the twist? Lauren is only eleven in the video!
Keith explains that he holds a competition for each show to pick someone to come on stage and sing with him. In this case, he picked two and was very excited to welcome Lauren. There are few adults who could sing with Keith Urban in front of a massive crowd and not be intimidated. So, for an eleven-year-old to do it is a fantastic feat.
Lauren nails the performance, and it’s obvious the audience absolutely loves her. Lauren was born in Portsmouth, England, on the 23rd of September, 2003. When she was three, her parents, Gary and Kerry, moved Lauren and her brother to Canada. Lauren grew up in the Vancouver Island area and displayed a love of singing and performing at a young age. She entered a school talent show when she was six.
Lauren started her YouTube channel when she was eleven. She started off slowly, but she now has 702,000 subscribers, and many of her videos have in excess of a million views. In the last couple of years, Lauren began writing and uploading original songs to the channel.
She created two albums named Unplugged Vol 1 and Vol 2 in 2019. Vol. 1 was nominated for a Juno award in the Adult Contemporary Album Of The Year category. Unfortunately, she was pipped at the post by Bryan Adams. However, if you’re going to lose, losing to Bryan Adams is not too shabby.
Lauren’s fame initially grew due to her appearance on American Idol in 2020. She made it to the top 20 but, unfortunately, did not make it to the quarter-finals. She became even more well-known worldwide in 2022 when she self-released a single called Fingers Crossed.
It reached number one in Norway and Ireland, number three in New Zealand, number 4 in the UK and number eight in Canada. It’s pretty amazing as she had no one professionally promoting the single for her. This success and the popularity of her channel explain why her worth is estimated at over a million dollars. It seems likely that her fame will grow as she creates more music, and surely, a record deal must be on the horizon.
Keith Urban, on the other hand, is a huge star worldwide. He is married to fellow Aussie and movie star Nicole Kidman. The couple has two daughters, Sunday Rose and Faith Margaret. Keith has released twelve studio albums and won more than fifty awards for his music during his career.
Keith has also spoken openly about his struggles with alcoholism and cocaine addiction which have both created problems in his career and marriage. However, after a stay in rehab in 2006 he seems to have it under control.
