Young singer-songwriter Landon Wall is such a big fan of Kelsea Ballerini that he wrote a song about her, “Lost Boy,” which is his response to her hit “Peter Pan.” The youngster got the surprise of his life when, after he performed “Lost Boy,” Ballerini walked onstage with a big smile and said, “Now if you’re gonna sing the response, I get to sing mine too.” The country star then hugged Landon and told him, “I loved your cover so much that I got really excited about it.”
Ballerini then performed “Peter Pan” in a solo acoustic format, cheekily telling the audience beforehand, “That was a better version of my song.” Hearing Ballerini sing her hit in such an intimate style, without any of the pop production of the studio recording, made for a unique performance. The vibe in the room was also really special, not only because of Ballerini’s bubbly personality, but also how cute it was to see Landon smiling from ear to ear while he was meeting his hero.
Ballerini invited Landon to sing “Peter Pan” when she hit the stage, and he seemed to agree. However, it seems the young man was way too starstruck to sing with her and he headed to the crowd to watch as she played. After Ballerini played “Peter Pan,” she then made time to take a video and a selfie with Landon. As great as the performances were, Landon’s stoked reaction to the whole thing is definitely the best part of the video, and will be sure to put a smile on your face.
Fans online loved to see Ballerini dropping in to Landon’s show, and added comments such as “That was incredible! I love Kelsea’s version and have since I first heard it, but holy cow! Landon, you’ve got something special. I’m gonna have to go on the hunt for more from you!” and “Landon is incredible, his song should be on the radio. Kelsea’s reaction was so adorable. Love her!” Ballerini gave a beautiful performance of “Peter Pan” on CMT with her band shortly after she released the song.
Ballerini released “Peter Pan” on March 21, 2016, as the third single from her debut album The First Time. The country pop tune became her first double Platinum single, as well as her first single to top the US Country chart.
Ballerini wrote “Peter Pan” with Forest Glen Whitehead and Jesse Lee. The lyrics address a whirlwind romance that falters because her lover is unwilling to commit. It includes the line “You’re just a lost boy,” which Landon used as the basis for writing his response to the song.
