Lady Gaga Makes History With Paris Olympics Opening Ceremony Performance

Lady Gaga’s 2024 Olympic opening ceremony performance instantly went viral as she cemented herself even further in show business history. Although Gaga’s opening ceremony slot would normally have been filled with a local (French) talent, the American singer was selected to showcase the best in French music culture paying tribute to it’s iconic jazz and cabaret performance.

Following her performance, she has become one of only a handful of people to have performed at the Super Bowl, The Olympics and The Oscars. Watch her history making performance in Paris below:

There have been many legendary Super Bowl Halftime Shows over the years, but Lady Gaga’s performance might just be the best in the last decade. No one knows how to put on a big spectacle like Lady Gaga, making her the perfect choice for the big ticket show. Dressed in an outlandish sequined silver bodysuit, the megastar treated fans to a nine-song setlist, which included her biggest hits such as “Poker Face”, “Bad Romance”, “Born This Way”, “Million Reasons”, and “Just Dance”.

Lady Gaga put on a huge production, with fireworks, dozens of backup dancers, as well as rapid-fire set and costume changes. She kicked off the show with a bang by singing “God Bless America” from the roof of the arena, then making a death-defying leap to a tower on the stage with the help of a harness. She then sang “Poker Face” before descending to the stage below in an incredible acrobatics display, seemingly completely unfazed by being dangled dozens of feet in the air.

Lady Gaga also drew praise for singing live during the show, breaking with the standard practice of lip-syncing for the Super Bowl Halftime Show. It’s really an incredible feat to be able to sing live so well while performing such advanced acrobatics and leading an upbeat dance routine. Aside from the incredible performance she put on, the fact that it was done live for real is another reason that her show deserves a place in the history of the greatest halftime shows.

Fans were amazed by Lady Gaga’s performance, adding comments below the video such as, “This is still the best Super Bowl Halftime Show at least in the past seven years. No halftime shows after this have topped it,” and, “Still the best halftime show of this century, and totally solo!” The latter comment references the fact that Lady Gaga’s appearance was the first female solo halftime show since 1996. Another hit live performance from Lady Gaga was her version of “Born This Way” at the Grammys.

Lady Gaga’s Super Bowl Halftime Show drew 117.5 million viewers on television, making it the fourth most-watched halftime show in history. The record viewership actually meant that her performance had more viewers than the game itself. The show also boosted sales for Lady Gaga’s entire discography and sent her single “Million Reasons” to the top of the Billboard Hot 100 chart.
