Kelly Clarkson gives her most uplifting performance with a rendition of “Hold On” with Wilson Phillips vocal trio, and you don’t want to miss the feelgood vibes Kelly shares with her gals!

This is the definition of a feelgood performance! Kelly Clarkson sang with Wilson Phillips on the trio’s 1990 hit “Hold On,” and it was nothing short of inspiring. The hopeful message of the lyrics, and how much gosh darn fun the four ladies were having onstage made this such an amazing performance. Kelly is the master of harmonizing with any artist, but when combined with the incredible vocal talents of the trio, the vocal quartet they produced was just breathtaking to hear.

You can tell Kelly really loves this song and Wilson Phillips’ music. She couldn’t wipe the smile off her face throughout the whole performance, and this infectiously fun vibe was shared by the trio. It’s not easy to sing a hit you dropped 30 years ago with this level of passion and energy, but Wilson Phillips are just built different. The Music Man has to say we loved the nostalgic vibes of hearing this fresh take on this ‘90s classic!

YouTube channel the Independent Musicians Foundation uploaded Kelly and Wilson Phillips’ collab on “Hold On,” and it hit 1.5 million views. Fans found a whole lot to like here and added comments such as “It feels so good to see how everyone is freaking out to this song even the band itself” and “Kelly has a sweet voice, but the way the three ladies walked in like ‘we got it from here!’ Epic!!!”

It’s always a good time when Wilson Phillips sing “Hold On.” The trio delivered a memorable cut of the song on GAA back in 2012. This kind of classic vocal group is something that is missing big time in today’s chart music. The pure and uplifting harmonies of the trio are something I could listen to all day. In addition to the vocal fireworks, the energy and positivity they bring to the performance embody the power of the lyrics so much.

Wilson Phillips released “Hold On” on February 27, 1990, as the first single from their self-titled debut album. Two of the band members, Carnie Wilson and Chynna Phillips, co-wrote the song with Glen Ballard, while the latter also produced the song. In 2020, Chynna spoke to Kelly Clarkson about the meaning of “Hold On,” saying, “I just said if I don’t change my course, I’m going to be in a lot of trouble.” The singer was dealing with substance abuse and was in a “really bad” relationship at the time, which was reflected in the lyrics. The Music Man readers may recall that “Hold On” put Wilson Phillips on the map in a big way, as it went Gold in the US and Platinum in the UK and Australia.
