Meet Judy Dove Alleva, a very talented trumpeter who has gone viral on YouTube. The thing that makes her playing even more impressive is that she is only seven years old.
Anyone who has ever seen an important event or a sports game in America will know that the national anthem is always performed beforehand. At the biggest events, such as the Super Bowl, massive stars like Beyoncé have performed it to the delight of fans. Even at local university games, it’s a big deal.
Little Judy does not seem to have an ounce of nerves or feel any pressure, though. She performed the anthem at the prestigious Johns Hopkins University before a Women’s Lacrosse Game. When the video begins, Judy is being escorted onto the field with a microphone, to loud cheers of encouragement from the players and fans alike.
The game’s commentator introduced her, explaining that she was in the second grade and had only been playing for a year. Judy grins throughout and seems eager to get started. She looks adorable in blue jeans and a sparkly black top, although she seems to be fighting a losing battle with the wind that is blowing her hair in her eyes.
When she starts to play, she is laser-focused on her performance. She hits every single note bang on and plays with confidence. It would have been impressive if she had been double her age, but at seven, it’s astounding. It’s hard to believe she has only been playing for a year.
Many children who learn an instrument are still learning basic scales after a year, or at most simple melodies like twinkle twinkle little star. A complex piece like the American national anthem takes far more work and much more ability. Clearly, little Judy has a gift for the instrument, which explains why this video is just one of her performances during her tour of Maryland. It seems music runs in her family though, as her brother James is also a talented trumpeter.
She has certainly blown viewers on YouTybe away, the video has been watched 3.7 million times already. One commenter exclaimed:
“Honestly there’s an 8th grader in my section that can’t even play a C scale so kudos to this kid. Can’t wait to see what she does in her future. I could see her play in a jazz band because she is very confident.”
We’re all waiting to see more from Judy, so stay tuned. If you would like to see more from Judy Dove Alleva, you can subscribe to their YouTube channel.
