15-Year-Old Jade Mathieu Receives Canada’s Got Talent Golden Buzzer

When 15-year-old Jade Mathieu took the stage in the 2024 season of Canada’s Got Talent, judge Lily Singh asked if she was nervous about singing. Jade confessed that, while she wasn’t nervous about singing, she felt nervous about talking to the judges. Opening up about the communication difficulties she experienced as an autistic person, she explained that, although conversation felt difficult, she could use singing to express herself. That’s exactly what she did in her emotional first audition.

Jade poured her heart and soul into her performance as she stunned the audience with her version of Christina Aguilera’s ‘Reflection.’ Receiving a standing ovation from the judges and cheers from the audience, Jade appeared shocked at the overwhelmingly positive response to her song. Then, Howie Mandel shocked her even further by pressing the golden buzzer, putting her straight through to the next round, as he told her that he could make her dreams of being a singer come true.

While this was the young singer’s first time on Canada’s Got Talent, it wasn’t her first time competing in a TV talent competition. Last year, Jade travelled all the way from Quebec to France to compete in The Voice Kids France. She charmed the judges and crowds with her voice here, too, with judge Nolwenn Leroy describing her voice as “a gift from heaven”. In this competition, she made it all the way to the semi-finals to perform a cover of Whitney Houston’s ‘I Have Nothing’.

While her performance of the song wasn’t quite enough to get her through to the final of the competition, Jade’s singing ability stunned both judges and the audience alike. Her mature and powerful performance had the judges exchanging grins and emotional looks while the audience cheered her on as she belted out the difficult high notes in the song. Her mother looked on proudly, moved to tears as she sat in the audience and cheered on her daughter’s performance.

With almost a year between her appearance on The Voice Kids France and her appearance on Canada’s Got Talent, many will be wondering whether it is now Jade’s turn to get all the way to the winner’s spot. With the help of Howie Mandel’s golden buzzer, it is a sure sign that things are off to a positive start. As fans of the show leave comments like “With such an amazing voice and personality, you will be able to achieve your dream!” on the video of her audition, it seems that viewers are right behind her as she goes on to fight for her spot in the competition.
