Is Guy Sebastian the greatest Aussie vocal talent of his generation? That’s what fans were saying after hearing his heavenly high range on his recent viral cover of Daniel Bedingfield’s “If You’re Not the One.” The gentle ballad was the perfect platform for Sebastian to show off his soulful, lithe vocals and limitless range. Tune into the incredible falsetto high run just after the one-minute mark to get a load of just what the former Australian Idol star can do on the mic.
There’s a reason why Sebastian had the biggest career out of any Aussie singer to emerge from a TV talent show, and it’s on full display here. He’s a full-package singer, with a rich low and mid-range, as well as a honeyed high range for days. One thing that’s worth noting is that Sebastian captures the vocal in a single take, which is really jaw-dropping. I can’t hear any Auto-Tune on that vocal either. The Music Man was loving this reminder of why all Aussies are proud to call Sebastian their own!
Sebastian uploaded his take on “If You’re Not the One” on December 6, 2024. The cover did some real digits on his YouTube channel, drawing 4.6 million views. Fans loved the cover, and added comments such as “Ladies and gentlemen, you are watching and listening to Australia’s best singer! Perfection!” and “All the young singers out there. Watch this… This is how it’s done. No Auto-Tune, no gimmicks, just pure talent.”
One of The Music Man’s favorite Sebastian performances is when he dropped in to The Voice to perform his single “Believer.” Sebastian gave a passionate performance on the romantic piano ballad with gospel touches. He turned up the stage presence that helped make him a star and quickly had the judges and the crowd eating out of the palm of his hand. Sebastian was really on a roll that day, as this take on “Believer” is the most-viewed performance on his channel, with 6.9 million views and counting.
Kiwi-British singer Daniel Bedingfield released “If You’re Not The One” on November 25, 2002, as the third single from his first studio album Gotta Get Thru This. The song became one of his biggest hits, going to number one in the UK and scoring a Platinum certification there. It also did good numbers in Australia, hitting the top 20 Down Under and going Gold.
