Ethan Beckton’s ELECTRIC Pop Ballad Turns Four Chairs On The Voice Australia

Ethan Beckton’s blind audition on The Voice Australia 2023 was the very definition of flawless. This 18-year-old landscaper from New South Wales had started singing when he was around six years old. Even more shocking, Ethan is completely self-taught, yet sings like a pro who’s spent his lifetime selling out stadiums.

Appearing on the show’s twelfth season, Ethan Beckton took to the stage with Labrinth’s 2014 pop ballad, “Jealous” — a heartbreakingly emotional track addressed to an absent parent. Labrinth’s original only landed at #18 on Australia’s singles charts, but Ethan Beckton’s version, performed nearly ten years on, breathes stunning new life into the song as he claims its melodies like they’re his own.

Ethan attacked the song with sensitivity and might, an electric voice as smooth as glass and enchanting beyond belief.

From his very first line, Ethan’s exceptional tones sent fangirls screaming in his audience, before falling completely silent, spellbound by his voice. Jason Derulo, the show’s newest judge, was the first to spin his chair around, hitting the button before Ethan’s chorus had even kicked off. Jessica Mauboy and Rita Ora followed in quick succession, before a tentative Guy Sebastian took the plunge and spun his chair too, just in time to witness Ethan’s pitch-perfect chorus.

After Jason Derulo called it “a perfect audition,” winning the young singer on his team, Ethan went on to perform “Let It Go” from Disney’s Frozen at the Callback stage of the competition. He then performed Lizzy Alpine’s “Ceilings” during the Battles round and James Arthur’s “Train Wreck” at the semi-finals. Ethan made it all the way to the Grand Finale, singing Ed Sheeran’s “Eyes Closed” and Lewis Capaldi’s “Someone You Loved,” before ending as runner-up to Rita Ora’s winning vocalist, Tarryn Stokes.

But this wasn’t the end for Ethan. Since stealing hearts on The Voice Australia last year, Ethan has already released his first two singles to a Spotify audience of 12K+ monthly listeners. His debut single, “Lighthouse,” dropped in September ’23 — an uplifting, summery pop track co-written with Michael Fatkin and Scott Richie. “Falling,” meanwhile, is a completely solo track that twines the feel-good energy of country-style acoustic pop with the aura of a #1 hit.

While on the fast track to success with 1.4M YouTube views on his audition alone, fans can still book Ethan via his website to perform at events, including weddings and corporate dos. We suggest making the most of this spectacular, TV-famous talent while you still can!
