Talent shows across the world are an opportunity to see acts and human abilities that you simply won’t see in your day-to-day life. It is also an opportunity for individuals to showcase what they have to offer to the world, and change their lives as they receive recognition for their gifts that can lead to life-changing careers. Some human feats seem impossible to many of us, and it shows that some individuals truly have a special gift that deserves to be praised and appreciated the world over.
This is certainly the case with the focus of today’s article, 10-year-old Emerald who is a contortionist stole the show on Little Big Shots, a UK-based children’s talent show. She came from California in the United States of America. Her performance is dazzling, and at such a young age she has an incredibly talented and promising life ahead of her. Watch the performance in the video below:
At first, the audience is confused as no performer can be seen on stage. It then comes as a shock to all that young Emerald had folded herself into one of the cupboards of the on-stage kitchen set and emerged to a roar of applause. Using all manners of contortionist flexibility, she prepares a routine around kitchen appliances and makes a cup of tea that boggles the mind as she folds herself in half and twists with incredible professionalism.
Contortionism is a performance art and a highly athletic one at that. It revolves around performers (contortionists) showcasing their incredible physical flexibility and is often accompanied by other performers engaging in circus acts, acrobatics, and other such performance arts. Some of the most famous contortionists come out of the Cirque Du Soleil, including the Russian contortionist Aleksei Goloborodko. Watch one of his mesmerizing performances in the video below:
Little Big Shots is an American television series that was created by both Steve Harvey and Ellen DeGeneres, and it was designed to be a showcase show, rather than a talent competition. In it, there are no prizes or contestants; it’s merely a platform for talented kids to perform and showcase what they can do to the world. Emerald performed on the UK edition of the talent show, which is hosted by the actress Dawn French.
In the post-performance interview, Emerald explained that she had only been doing contortion for two years but had been self-taught. Some of her bright personality also shines through in this interview, as she explains she likes to back-bend (contort the back all the way around so that the performer is on hands and needs but their body is in a full curve), and chase people!
Since her appearance on Little Big Shots, Emerald has become quite the popular contortionist. She has appeared in several talent shows but also secured an acting role in The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It for her contortionist abilities.
We wish Emerald all the best in her future endeavors. If you would like to see more from Emerald Gordon Wulf, you can follow her on Instagram.
