Watching The Actor Who Played Elton John In Rocketman Duet With Real Elton John Is Heartwarming

Elton John pulled out all the stops for his final concert tour in 2019, and one of the surprises was a duet with Taron Egerton, the actor who played a young John in the hit musical drama film Rocketman. The pair performed John’s classic number “Your Song” to a sold-out crowd of 18,210 at the County Cricket Ground in Hove. The English star took the opening verse and then let Egerton shine on the second verse, before they sang the chorus together.

The duet was really touching, as you could tell Egerton was stoked to be up there singing with the great man, and seemed to be singing just for John. John, meanwhile, looked on like a proud dad, making for a memorable performance. Egerton is an actor first and a singer second, but he did a great job, and his heartfelt delivery really made the performance come off so beautifully. Another nice touch was the way Egerton interacted with John, as it really showed how much it meant to him to be there.

John and Egerton’s duet on “Your Song” was quite popular on YouTube, where it attracted 17.5 million views on the former’s channel. The pair performed together on John’s Farewell Yellow Brick Road, which was his 49th and final concert tour. The English star played to sold-out crowd after sold-out crowd on the tour, grossing $939.1 million, making it the second highest-grossing tour of all time.

The Hove show was quite a special one, however, as John explained: “I haven’t had a guest on any of the shows on this Farewell Yellow Brick Road tour.” John has given many memorable performances of “Your Song” over the years. The song was his first international top 10 hit, and became his most performed song live over the years. The most popular live version of “Your Song” was John’s live cut on Top of the Pops in 1971, which has clocked up 75 million views.

The Elton John biopic Rocketman, which starred Egerton in the leading role, was quite the hit with both fans and critics. The film took in a hefty $195.3 million at the box office, off a $40 million budget. Critics praised the film and Egerton’s performance, and he won the Golden Globe Award for Best Actor for it. “Your Song” was featured in the film, where the writing of the hit is documented.
