Christina Aguilera And Sabrina Carpenter Have Crazy Chemistry In Big Duet On This Classic 1990s Pop Hit

Christina Aguilera and Sabrina Carpenter are a match made in heaven! The pair teamed up to make beautiful melodies together on Aguilera’s number one hit “What a Girl Wants,” and their voices are just made for each other. In the October 2024 studio session, Carpenter opened up the song with a smoky R&B vocal as Aguilera watched on in delight. She then passed it over to Aguilera, who upped the ante with a dramatic and soulful verse.

Both the stars were backed up by a four-piece vocal group who added gorgeous harmonies that made the whole song pop. As the song continued, Carpenter and Aguilera traded lines, clearly having a lot of fun with it. Aguilera dropped the show-stopper with a delicious a cappella vocal run at 2:26, which Carpenter was just loving. Aguilera has a lot of staying power in the industry, and after watching this, I’m sure The Music Man readers can see why.

The pair performed the duet in a live studio session for Spotify Anniversaries to celebrate the 25th anniversary of Aguilera’s debut album. It blew up online, with three million viewers enjoying the performance. Fans were loving the collab, and added comments such as “The fact is Sabrina has been saying for years that she wanted to sing with Christina, and now she’s doing it. How incredible!” and “The contrast between Sabrina’s sweet, soft voice and Christina’s strong voice is amazing.”

Aguilera shared the whole session on her YouTube channel, covering several classic tracks from her debut album across a 26-minute performance. Another popular cut from the session was her collab with MGK on “Genie in a Bottle.” The rapper turned rock star contributed a fiery guitar solo to close out the song. Aguilera’s vocal interplay with the backing vocalists and solo over the outro was really something.

At the session, Carpenter told Aguilera about the influence the veteran pop star had on her career. Carpenter said the first time she ever heard Aguilera sing was when she sang Etta James’s “A Sunday Kind of Love” at 10 years old on Star Search in 1990. For any The Music Man readers who weren’t around back then, Star Search was a televised American talent contest. Carpenter gushed about the performance, saying, “That was the most inspiring thing for me ever to see as a young girl that wanted to sing but just didn’t think I could do it at that age.”
