Singing collective Choir! Choir! Choir! have taken over the internet over the last few days with their take on the classic Leonard Cohen song ‘Hallelujah’, racking up thousands of views on YouTube alone in a matter of hours. Led by Canadians Daveed Goldman and Nobu Adilman, the huge crowd of singers produced an emotive, spine-tingling performance that many viewers are describing as one of the best renditions out there of what is possibly the greatest song that has ever been written.
Well over a thousand singers joined in the rousing singalong, creating a magical moment that few of its participants will ever forget. Singers both young and old came together side by side, while the two choir leaders used multiple vocal parts to create some truly stunning harmonies, as you can hear in the video below.
Among Choir! Choir! Choir!’s other popular videos, meanwhile, is this one, in which another huge crowd of people takes on the Cranberries track ‘Zombie,’ complete with multiple vocal parts and harmonies. As one of the video’s viewers perceptively notices, there are few things in life more spine-tingling than hearing a group of people singing in unison; “I don’t know what it is, but there is something really powerful and emotional about listening to a big group of people singing together.”
Here at the Music Man, we’re big fans of Choir! Choir! Choir! and love their distinctive approach to performing that allows anyone to turn up and join in if they so choose. Their video documenting their rendition of Leonard Cohen’s ‘Hallelujah’ perhaps proves the extent of their good work to the most irrepressible extent, with the emotion and enjoyment becoming apparent on the faces of everyone in the room as the performance goes on. From the looks of their YouTube channel, it seems like they upload regular content too, so watch this space for more spine-tingling videos from this life-affirming collective.
