Caleb Hayes is a young drummer of just seven years old from the United Kingdom. This little wunderkind started playing the drums at the age of two, but as his mother says, he showed interest from an earlier age by pretending to play on pillows using pencils.
His father, who is a drummer himself, says he is amazed by the abilities of his son, who apparently only needs to hear a song a few times before he can reproduce it. And despite his young age, he has already performed on stage and played in studios with live bands. His mother, Kim, manages Caleb’s social profiles and YouTube channel.
Since then, the views have only increased, as well as Caleb’s skills as he has tried out increasingly difficult pieces. Such as his cover of System of a Down’s Toxicity. He shows a control of the drums that would be a source of envy to the most navigated musicians. His videos have been noticed by numerous artists, including his favourite band of all time, Slipknot. In fact, he has hundreds of thousands of followers on his social media, and some of his videos and reels exceed 1 million views.
In early 2020, Caleb was invited by Slipknot to their concert in Birmingham, England. The young boy had the opportunity to go backstage to meet the band, play Jay Weinberg’s drums, and was invited on stage to throw some drum sticks belonging to the drummer at the audience. The year before, Caleb had dressed up as Joey Jordison for Halloween and played a cover of Before I Forget that reached 2 million views on YouTube.
The internet audience is completely in love with Caleb. He is described as phenomenal, being praised for his natural talent, and for being able to play songs that are tricky even for expert musicians.
His most recent achievement was being a guest on The Ellen DeGeneres Show, where he performed a cover of Sulfur, by Slipknot. The kid joked that he became better than his dad over the years, and said he was saving money to upgrade his equipment and buy a new drum kit. He was then surprised by a staff member of the show with the very kit he had been eyeing: a signature model designed by Jay Weinberg himself.
Seeing such a young and talented boy achieve his milestones gives hope and motivation. With the right commitment and perseverance, dreams can become reality. And Caleb Hayes is definitely a drummer to keep an eye on, and we hope to see him perform on big stages soon.
