After hearing Brooks Rosser’s heartbreaking and totally unique take on “Dancing On My Own,” fans are saying the 22-year-old is not just going to win American Idol, he’s about to be a megastar! There are a lot of talented singers on the show this season, but absolutely nobody does it like Brooks. As judge Keke Palmer said, he has an “I don’t know what happened to my life type voice,” and fans just can’t stop raving about it. The young man is not just a singer – he’s an artist.

It was clear that Brooks was going to knock it out of the park this week on Idol, as when he previewed the song for the judges, Keke was totally swooning from the first line. Guest judge Brad Paisley went on to note that Brooks gave himself a very tough song choice with “Dancing On My Own,” and that he needed to dial in that big high note in the chorus just right. The Music Man has to say that when Brooks hit the chorus hook on stage, the mesmerized looks from the judges said it all!

American Idol uploaded Brooks’ take on “Dancing on My Own” on March 17, 2026. Viewers felt he hit the mark and added comments such as “This voice is one in a million, please someone sign him. His voice cuts through all of the veins” and “Brooks had this 57-year-old man crying like a baby with his version of this song. Win or lose on this show he has forever won a piece of my heart. We love you Brooks!”

Another standout moment from Brooks on season 24 of American Idol was his cover of Sam Barber’s “Drowning.” Brooks delivered this cover during the Hollywood round and accompanied himself on acoustic guitar while fronting a minimalist band. The Maryland native’s ability to really put his stamp on the song and showcase what he was all about as a vocalist and artist showed his potential in the competition early on here.

As of the March 31, 2026 performances, American Idol has now been whittled down to the top 14. The Music Man readers won’t be surprised to hear that Brooks has made the cut. He delivered a unique cover of John Lennon’s “Imagine” during the March 31 round.
At this point, Brooks is definitely a strong contender to win American Idol this season. His main competition is country songstress Hannah Harper, whose personal story as a mother of three won the hearts of the nation during her audition on her original song “String Cheese.” What Brooks has going for him in particular is his completely unique voice – he easily has the most distinctive voice and artistic direction out of the contenders this season.
