When you think of Taylor Swift, it’s unlikely that the first genre you think of is rock. Four-piece rock band Ark Angels are here to change that, however, with their recent heavy cover of Taylor’s classic song ‘Fate of Ophelia’. With hundreds of thousands of views on YouTube alone, the song is really taking off online, to the extent that even Taylor haters are obsessed!
Transforming the smooth, slick pop song into a gritty rock anthem, fans of the cover are shocked at how well this particular song works in a completely different genre. Much of the appeal comes from the heavy guitar part, which instantly gives the song some seriously heavy energy.
In fact, Music Man readers, this cover of ‘Fate of Ophelia’ is so well done that even listeners who actively dislike Taylor Swift and her music are raving about it. “I never thought I would ever like a song by Ms. Swift,” said one fan, whilst another simply confessed, “well, I certainly didn’t expect this. An absolute banger.”
As you have probably guessed by the ease and confidence with which Ark Angels appear to deliver the cover, this is not the first time they have put a pop song into a heavier rock style. A few months ago, for instance, they uploaded a live cover of ‘Toxic’ by Britney Spears to their YouTube that really changed the song into something darker and heavier.
In short, from these two YouTube videos alone, it’s clear that Ark Angels know what they’re doing when it comes to transforming slick pop songs into rock anthems. Their cover of Taylor Swift’s ‘Fate of Ophelia’ in particular has taken the Internet by storm, and when you hear it for yourself, you will undoubtedly realize why.
Ark Angels have proved Taylor Swift can be brutal and brilliant in equal measure — their heavy take on “Fate of Ophelia” is a must-hear. If you want to find out why even Swift skeptics are raving, check the links below to stream the cover, follow the band and discover more.
