Summertime is the perfect time for festivals in the United Kingdom, and the English singer-songwriter Anne Marie has created many summer hits in her career. Alongside collaborating with many other successful artists in the world, she has built a name for herself on the festival circuit, with her name drawing in big crowds wherever she plays.
At Glastonbury 2019, Anne Marie treated the crowd to one of her most recognizable songs to date: “2002”. This feel-good bop was co-created by Ed Sheeran and resulted in the singer being nominated for several awards including the Brit Awards and Global Awards. Anne Marie is a natural-born entertainer from Essex, England. She expressed an early interest in the performing arts when she entered stage school at the age of five and appeared in two impressive West End productions as a young child. Interestingly, she auditioned for Les Misérables when she was just six years old, and also appeared in Whistle Down the Wind when she was 12 alongside fellow British performer Jessie J.
Anne Marie’s Glastonbury performance has come from a career of long, hard work, and a lot of successful singles. She has appeared on the UK music charts several times throughout her career, including Clean Bandit’s “Rockabye” which hit number one on the UK Singles Chart. Not only that, but she has been nominated for 10 Brit Awards throughout her career and collaborated with a wide array of artists, including the English rapper Aitch.
Alongside her successful music career, Anne Marie is also accomplished in other walks of life. She is a black belt in Shotokan karate, where she began taking lessons at just age nine and became a triple world champion. Despite having less time nowadays to commit to the sport due to her music career, she credits karate for teaching her essential lessons in discipline and focus which have helped her career.
