When Sweden’s biggest modern pop sensation Zara Larsson got her first big break auditioning at 10 years old on Sweden’s Got Talent, viewers had to agree that some people are just born to be stars! Zara’s audition is just adorable, but when she opens her mouth to sing Whitney Houston’s “Greatest Love of All,” the powerful voice of a born diva comes out, stunning the crowd. Can we just appreciate how much of a risk it is to audition on a Whitney song? That’s a tall order even for experienced pro singers.
Zara is just all over it, though. She has the power, the range, and the emotional depth that is just so far beyond her years. The Music Man has to say it’s really something to see such a complete performer at such a young age. When she hits that main hook at 1:52, get ready for goosebumps. The moment right at the end when she gets a thunderous applause and she smiles so sweetly was just the perfect way to wrap up a legendary audition.
Swedish network TV4 recently uploaded an HD version of Zara’s Sweden’s Got Talent audition, which she performed in 2008. Zara would go on to win the competition that year, and the success of her run allowed her to launch her career as a recording artist. Viewers added comments such as “Some divas are just always meant to be stars” and “That is literally the best singing I’ve ever heard from a child.”
Zara produced a number of hit performances from age 10 onwards. Another of her early viral performances is her take on Kelly Clarkson’s “A Moment Like This.” The cover is full of incredible vocal moments, like from 2:30 onwards. The Music Man is also really impressed by how much Zara makes the song her own. How many kids her age can put their stamp on a song in such a compelling way?
Zara got her first big break with her audition on Sweden’s Got Talent with her take on Whitney’s “Greatest Love of All.” She successfully progressed through the competition and eventually won the series with her cover of Celine Dion’s “My Heart Will Go On.” Zara went on to release “My Heart Will Go On” as her debut single, scoring a top 10 hit on the Swedish charts with the release. In 2013, she released the single “Uncover,” which became her first number one hit in Sweden and Norway. She subsequently established herself as a major commercial force in Europe and North America, with five hit studio albums to her name.
