“Ozzy Osbourne has been present in my life since I was 2 years old,” Yungblud told Howard Stern before an emotional performance of Black Sabbath ballad “Changes.” The young English star poured his heart out to Howard, speaking about what Ozzy meant to him growing up, their relationship, and the advice Ozzy gave him on his deathbed. Yungblud then performed a heartbreaking version of Ozzy’s greatest ballad.
Seeing Yungblud pay tribute to Ozzy in this way meant a lot to fans, who said he was carrying on the legacy of the English legend. The Music Man has to say that Black Sabbath songs are really difficult to cover because Sabbath and Ozzy are just so unique. But Yungblud does a fantastic job here, thanks to his huge vocal range and ability to get to the heart of the emotion of the song.
The Howard Stern Show uploaded the “Changes” cover on December 17, 2025, where it hit 640,000 views. Ozzy and Sabbath fans received the performance well and added comments such as “I’ll never get tired of watching him perform this song!!! I can feel the authenticity and love!” and “It destroyed me when Ozzy died. Dom’s version of ‘Changes’ captures that perfectly. Sucks that Ozzy is gone, but I’m glad we have Yungblud to carry on. I think rock is in good hands.”
Yungblud has been scoring hit UK albums since 2018, but it was his July 2025 performance of “Changes” at Black Sabbath’s final show that brought him to the attention of many older rock fans. “Changes” is such a special song in Black Sabbath’s discography, and the only heartfelt, stripped-back piano ballad that the band ever did. So it was a huge moment in the show to perform that song, and Yungblud stepped up to the plate and showed that he had what it takes. His cover has since been viewed 14 million times.
Black Sabbath issued “Changes” as a deep cut on their 1972 album Vol. 4. As with all songs on the album, the writing is credited to all four members of Black Sabbath. “Changes” originated as a piano part composed by Black Sabbath guitarist Tony Iommi, an instrument on which he was not accustomed to writing. Bassist Geezer Butler penned the lyrics, which detail a man’s reflection upon the breakdown of his relationship with the love of his life. “Changes” has become known as an essential track in the Black Sabbath discography. The ballad has become one of only nine Sabbath songs to exceed 100 million streams on Spotify.
