On one small YouTube channel hosted by songwriter, bandmate, and budding session musician Toni Lindgren, an astounding four-piece cover of The Bee Gees’ classic hit, “How Great Is Your Love,” emerged and took the site by storm, racking up over 1.9 million views in just a couple of years!
But to make her biggest music video to date, Toni enlisted the help of four friends and fellow online sensations: singer/guitarist Reina del Cid, bassist Carson McKee, and drummer Josh Turner.
Pull any four inspired musicians into a room and, after a few beers, something magical is bound to erupt. And that’s exactly what happened in this clip: the friends sipping drinks and sinking into a mythical cover that almost tops the Bee Gees’ 1977 original.
Toni’s fans were shocked to see her take on the lead vocals of this track, but her smooth voice lays the ultimate foundation: soft and silky, toned like a vintage folk star. The warm clean tones of her Fender bleed a perfect solo through the band’s rounded sound; their harmony classic, rich, and faultless, paying true homage to The Bee Gees without muddying their music with gimmicky modern twists.
Reina del Cid (of the eponymous folk rock band; her real name, Elle Cordova) has been performing with Toni in her folk band since 2013, her own YouTube channel boasting 693,000 subscribers, and her official joint band channel with Toni over 472,000 subs.
Multi-instrumentalist Josh Turner holds down the slow groove in this viral clip, but in his own time is a vocalist, songwriter, recording engineer, producer, session musician, and social media star, boasting 744,000 YouTube followers of his own. He also forms one half of the indie-folk duo, The Other Favourites, alongside Carson McKee.
Carson has scored a viral video on his own channel, performing The Beatles’ classic “Don’t Let Me Down” with Toni, Reina, and Josh, to the tune of 2.6 million views. But these are hardly the only times this quartet has collabed: countless four-piece covers and originals stud each musician’s channel, including spins on Neil Young, Fleetwood Mac, Alison Krauss, and more. Music Man readers can check out their soothingly retro cover of Neil Young’s “Harvest Moon” in the clip above!
But it’s the band’s Bee Gees cover which has truly been melting fans away. And viewers wasted no time in spreading their love, with commenters sharing some poignant opinions: “I love that this classic is being performed by a new generation of musicians who weren’t alive when it was the new song on the radio”; “This is an organic confluence of talent that just works,” and “At 67, I’ve heard this song about a zillion times. This is the FIRST TIME I’ve liked it! Thank you!”
