On the first watch, this video might feel like a crazy hallucination, but it’s actually just some high school kids who have got some serious moves! Known as the Tomioka High School Dance Club, the Japanese dance group went mega viral with this video, delivering a routine that is so perfectly synchronized it’s hard to believe that the dancers are people and not robots.
Selecting ABBA’s iconic track ‘Gimme Gimme Gimme (A Man After Midnight)’, the group must have been the talk of their school after delivering this routine, which sees the students pull off some highly complex moves without ever missing a beat. From fast-paced floor kicks to frantic arm combos, these crazy-talented students have everyone wondering how on earth they got their dance moves so in sync.
The lady to talk to about that would probably be Akane, the famed producer and choreographer who devised the group’s intricate and unusual routines. She later went on to lead trailblazing dance group Avantegardey, who Music Man readers may already be familiar with on account of their appearance on Season 18 of America’s Got Talent. The group made it to the final but sadly didn’t win, and were pipped to the post by Adrian Stoica and his border collie, Hurricane.
For another iconic routine from the super talented Tomioka High School Dance Club, meanwhile, we highly recommend you check out this video, which also went mega viral online when it was uploaded in 2017. Having been watched by an impressive 119 MILLION people to date, the video has been nicknamed ‘the bubbly dance’, and it features the dancers dressed in shiny, 1980s-style outfits delivering their trademark, intricate dance moves – all entirely in sync with one another, of course!
The Tomioka High School Dance Club is a dance group like no other, having brought their crazy ability for synchronization to viewers all over the world via their videos on YouTube. It seems we have legendary choreographer Akane to thank for these eye-catching routines, but the incredible talents of the dancers who partake in these routines should also not go unrecognized!
