14-Year-Old Tilman Lights Up The Voice Kids With “Great Balls Of Fire” By Jerry Lee Lewis

14-year-old Tilman lit up The Voice Kids Germany with some old school charm on Jerry Lee Lewis’s “Great Balls of Fire”. The teen played piano and sang while giving a rollicking rendition of the 1957 classic for his blind audition. He instantly brought an out-of-control rock ‘n’ roll energy to the performance, winning over the audience right away. The judges also responded quickly to what Tilman was putting out, with all three judges turning their chairs during the first chorus or shortly after.

Despite his young age, Tilman has definitely mastered the art of rock ‘n’ roll piano playing. That much was clear not only by his rock-solid groove on the ivories but also his ability to headbang while playing. Tilman even played the piano with his feet at one point. This big stage presence made him an audience favorite, and he also delivered a hearty rocking vocal that really sealed the deal.

Rock ‘n’ roll fans loved to hear Tilman make the old school new again, and added comments such as “This is by far the best performance of this song. His voice is just scratchy enough, and he can hit the high note in ‘great’ perfectly” and “This is the best audition ever among The Voice in different countries. He deserves a contract. What a talented man. I’m still waiting for his debut, please.”

Tilman’s blind audition attracted 80.9 million viewers on YouTube. This made his Jerry Lee Lewis cover the seventh most popular video on The Voice Kids channel. After getting three yes votes, Tilman progressed to the top 45 in the season three competition, where he was coached by Lena Meyer-Landrut. The teen performed Bruno Mars’ “Uptown Funk” in his second appearance on the show.

Tilman was eliminated following his performance of “Uptown Funk”. As viewers pointed out in the comments, perhaps Meyer-Landrut wasn’t the best choice of coach for Tilman, as “Uptown Funk” didn’t seem to play to his strengths as a singer and performer as much. His piano playing was a big element to the success of his “Great Balls of Fire” audition, but he barely touched the piano during the Bruno Mars cover.
Tilman is still pursuing music, and shares his musical endeavors with fans via his social media. His YouTube channel features a range of piano and vocal covers, many of which are in the retro style which he does so well.
