Three boys from the Michigan countryside became surprise breakout stars on America’s Got Talent this season. Dad and sons trio The Sound might look like regular country boys, but they had something up their sleeve which would send their audition viral big time. The trio from Romeo, Michigan, had the judges melting with their gorgeous harmonies on John Denver’s timeless hit “Take Me Home, Country Roads.” And watching the effect the family band had on the crowd during their uplifting performance was half the fun.
Before they even started playing, frontman Levi instantly got the whole room clapping along. The family then started singing honeyed harmonies, and the energy in the room went electric. Levi, Jacob, and dad Rob had such a positive vibe and warm smiles, not to mention some big-time talent, that made everyone in the room feel amazing, as you could see on the crowd’s faces. The Music Man has to say this style of authentic country music is exactly the kind of act we love to see on America’s Got Talent.
The Sound auditioned on America’s Got Talent on July 18, 2026. Their performance hit 850,000 views in a little over a week, making them the most viral country act we’ve seen on the show in quite some time. Viewers found a lot to love about the trio, and added comments such as “RIP John Denver.. He would have been proud” and “This song had me in tears. It takes me back to my childhood growing up as a country girl with my father.”
So far, The Sound have made one appearance on America’s Got Talent. They weren’t the only country act to make a splash this season on the show. Tennessee duo Madelyn Tallent and Malachi Martin hit the spot for country fans with their acoustic rendition of OneRepublic’s “Counting Stars.” Simon Cowell was convinced that the duo have star potential, and we have to say Madelyn definitely brought the right stuff as a frontwoman!
The most watched part of The Sound’s audition was their final a cappella vocal section at 2:58, which brought down the house. The trio got a standing ovation from the crowd and the judges after that big closer. The good vibes hit the spot for judge Mel B. She admitted that she wasn’t big on country music generally, but said, “This made me so happy. Your harmonies were just perfection.” The Sound then got four yes votes from the judges, sending them through to the next round. Simon Cowell did note that the song was a bit of a safe choice, though, and suggested they’d need to take a song from outside of country music and do it in their own style to succeed in the following round.
