Fans called Teyana Taylor’s 2025 BET Awards comeback show a “Superbowl performance” after the R&B star came back with a vengeance after five years away!

When Teyana Taylor made her comeback in 2025, fans declared she gave us a Super Bowl Halftime show at the 2025 BET Awards! In a comeback that BET rightfully called iconic, the New York City singer-songwriter hit the stage to perform two new songs. Taylor opened the performance with a fire and pyro display while performing the ambient R&B slow burn “Fire Girl.” The deliberate pace built the tension, and in an epic display, she then staged a mock wedding in a 12-foot dress while holding a burning bouquet.

In case that wasn’t wild enough, Taylor then pushed it to the next level as she kicked into her new single “Long Time.” On this dance and R&B number, she appeared suspended halfway to the ceiling and popped and locked mid-air in a display that had viewers admiring her prodigious core strength. Taylor complemented this with a smouldering vocal while dancing with her ‘robot’ backup dancers that were all Tron meets Daft Punk. After 5 years between drinks, The Music Man has to say that this was one helluva comeback.

BET uploaded Taylor’s comeback performance to YouTube on June 10, 2025, where it gained 1.5 million views. Fans were picking up what she was putting down and added comments such as “She just gave us a Super Bowl performance at the BET Awards” and “Her time has FINALLY arrived for the world to see what we’ve always known about Teyana… She’s a superstar!”

Although it’s been five years since we got new solo music from Taylor, she did make the most of the BET Awards in 2024 with two performances. She performed in one of the most popular cuts from the event, which was a star-packed tribute to Usher. Taylor hit the stage with Childish Gambino, Victoria Monét, Coco Jones, Chlöe, and Keke Palmer for the medley. As Usher watched, Taylor appeared at 13:24 to perform “Bad Girl” with Monét, producing the most replayed section from the 6.3 million view collab.

Taylor marked her return to music in 2025 with her single “Long Time” and her forthcoming fourth studio album Escape Room. The Music Man readers may recall that the New York City singer previously announced her retirement from music via her Instagram account on December 4, 2020. Taylor explained shortly thereafter that the decision was prompted by a lack of support from her label Def Jam, which she felt was undervaluing her. This came despite the success of her 2020 studio effort The Album, which went Gold in the US and marked her highest sales to date.
