Name a more iconic duo than Disney and your favorite childhood songs. BBC’s Strictly Come Dancing celebrated Disney’s 100th anniversary with a very special dance extravaganza that will hit you with nostalgia big time. A dozen dancers celebrated the beauty of Disney’s classic hits from the screen with an elegant ballroom dance with incredible production values.
The dancers created a beautiful performance that featured several generations of Disney as clips from Disney’s films and shows played in the background. An orchestra provided a lush soundscape as the dancers moved to songs such as Aladdin’s “A Whole New World” and themes from The Little Mermaid and Pocahontas. For any Disney fans among The Music Man readers, this is one performance you don’t want to miss!
Strictly Come Dancing uploaded the Disney medley on October 8, 2023, to celebrate 100 years of The Walt Disney Company. Disney fans loved the unique performance and added comments such as “I got goosebumps and tears when the Pocahontas theme came on. Well done professionals, truly a beautiful dance” and “Absolutely gorgeous! One of the best group routines I’ve seen. The choreography, music, and reel of Disney films in the background was simply stunning. Actually made me tear up a bit.”
Disney songs are really the gift that keeps on giving. In addition to all our favourites on screen, there have been many epic Disney live performances in recent years. One of our favourites here at The Music Man is Hawaiian star Auli’i Cravalho performing Ariel’s number “Part of Your World” on The Little Mermaid Live! for ABC. Cravalho is best known for voicing the title character in Disney’s animated Moana film, although she also did an excellent job at channeling The Little Mermaid here.
On October 16, 1923, Walt and Roy Disney founded the Disney Brothers Cartoon Studio, starting the company which would eventually become The Walt Disney Company that we all know and love. Disney launched the 100 Years of Wonder campaign in 2023 to celebrate the centenary of the company’s founding. Celebrations included performances such as Disney100 at the O2 in London, a one-off Super Bowl commercial, and a number of other stage and concert productions around the globe. The company also organized Disney100: The Exhibition, a touring exhibition which showcased memorabilia from throughout the history of the company.
