The ultra-talented kids who make up the cast of the Broadway musical School of Rock were gathered onstage for a band rehearsal. Practicing Guns N’ Roses’ smash hit ‘Sweet Child O’ Mine,’ they focused carefully, playing a note-perfect version of the song. As they played, they had no idea that the producers of the show had organized a surprise for them. Little did they know, Guns N’ Roses guitarist Slash was on his way to join them at that very moment, guitar in hand.
Appearing from the wings, Slash played along with the song’s iconic riff. As soon as the kids in the band spotted him, looks of shock crossed over their faces as they giggled in excitement. Music Man fans will be astonished to see that, despite their surprise, they didn’t miss a single note. They kept up with the rock star stride for stride, proving themselves as the talented musicians they are. The video now has more than 279k views online, as viewers watch the surprise collab in amazement.
I was astonished by how well the young musicians kept up with Slash, taking something that would throw most adults and dealing with it with total professionalism. It felt touching to see such a legendary musician take the time to go and play with the rock stars of tomorrow. Not only did it make me aware of the impressive talent that these young musicians possess, but I also felt that I was seeing a different side to a rock star who is more often seen playing to crowds in enormous arenas.
This is not the only time the School of Rock cast has been joined by an iconic musician. In 2017, UK theatergoers were taken by surprise when British musical icon Mel C joined the School of Rock cast for the curtain call. Together, they performed the Spice Girls hit ‘Wannabe’, giving it a special rock twist. With the young performers joining Mel on the mic and playing a unique guitar-led version of the song, they once again proved that they can keep up with the pros.
It is clear to anyone who sees the School of Rock cast perform that these are extremely talented young musicians. However, seeing them play with one of the most successful musicians in the world really puts their talent into perspective. With such an impressive start to their musical lives, it is no surprise that fans of the musical are making sure to keep their eyes peeled for these talented youngsters’ undoubtedly impressive future endeavors.
