Sheer Element got harmonies for DAYS on this breathtaking duet on Mariah Carey’s “We Belong Together.” It’s hard enough for a woman to cover Carey’s classic hit, but it’s another level for a male duo to take it on. Jej Vinson and Tabon Ward were just the fellas to do it though, and they show off incredible chemistry throughout the live studio session. The duo really did it in their own style as well, with both singing dual lead vocals throughout the performance and dropping killer harmonies left, right, and center.
Part of the magic that the duo bring to the table is how their different styles interact. Filipino talent Vinson has a smooth, soulful style while Maryland’s own Ward has a bold and dynamic tone. Ward created an incredible climax at 2:30, unloading with a powerhouse high range that had viewers replaying the section nonstop. You also don’t want to miss the show-stopping harmony that they closed the song out with at 2:57. The Music Man always has time for Mariah Carey’s hits, and these boys absolutely nailed it!
Sheer Element uploaded their take on “We Belong Together” on April 4, 2025. Fans were mighty impressed and added comments such as “I grew up on ‘We Belong Together’. I don’t think anyone has covered this song as good as these guys just did. Superb” and “When you see any cover of this, you realise how incredible Mariah’s skills are. It’s not an easy song, the riffs, range, dynamics etc. This is the best cover I’ve ever heard, and one I’m happy listening to over and over. Amazing work guys, super talented.”
Sheer Element have scored a number of popular YouTube uploads with their covers of classic songs. They showed a whole lotta class on their cover of the Bee Gees’ “How Deep Is Your Love.” For this performance, they performed with their full trio lineup, including Izzy Kaye. In addition to showing impeccable taste in featuring such a beautiful classic song, the cover is a great showcase for their chemistry as a trio. Kaye’s vocals add another element, completing a lush vocal arrangement that is quite distinctive.
Sheer Element is a US-based R&B vocal trio. The “How Deep is Your Love” cover was the group’s first upload in September 2021. The group scored their first seven-figure upload on YouTube on March 14, 2023, with their studio cover of “We Belong Together.” Sheer Element uploaded their live studio cut of the same song a month later, which The Music Man covered earlier in the article.
